Technology and business services company NTT Data Services has announced Dr. Michael Petersen as its new chief clinical innovation officer.

Petersen joins from Accenture, where he helped shape the firm’s health equity point of view, capabilities and ecosystem. Before working in health IT, he was an emergency medicine pediatrician at several large health systems, including 5 years as chief of pediatrics at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital.

“Dr. Petersen’s deep industry knowledge of emerging technologies and strategies that improve quality, cost of care and patient outcomes make him an instrumental part of our growing healthcare consulting leadership team,” said Dan Albright, NTT DATA Services divisional president and global head of consulting.

“Known as an industry thought leader in health equity, he continues to explore new ways to understand and engage with underserved communities through culturally competent experiences,” Albright added

Petersen has a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and a bachelor’s degree in biology and biological sciences from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. Petersen to the team,” said Mary Edwards, president of the Healthcare Provider business. “His clinical background, compassionate leadership style and advocacy for the underserved will help propel innovation forward at a time when we need to reimagine and redefine health and wellbeing to be more human-empowered, knowledge-driven and technology-enabled.”
